Where should I sit?
A really good question when you’re coming to a gathering. It does depend a little bit on how well you know the person that has died or how well you know the family.
And of course if they’ve asked you to sit close to them, please do. They’re asking for that support.
But really, if it’s someone you know okay but not really well and you want to attend, I suggest maybe you sit at the back of the chapel. Or if you know the family really well, I suggest you sit in the middle.
And of course if you’re a relative and they’ve asked you to sit close to the direct family, then don’t hesitate. Move up and sit with the family. But if you’re not direct family, you don’t normally sit in the front row.
If you’re not sure and you know a family member, ask them. And there’s always the funeral director. Ask them where do you think I should sit and have a conversation because it’s all about being in the know.
