A few people have told me they haven’t seen me around much over the last month. This is very true as in my current roles as Funeral Directors Association President, I have been bee away 2 of the 4 weeks in May attending the 3 district meetings and training days in the north island, Auckland, Central (meeting in Tauranga) and Wellington (Meeting in Palmerston North), followed by the south island two districts meetings in Christchurch and Dunedin.
My time was spent not only with meetings in each district but also several hours of training for staff, managers & owners while also using the day in between each district visiting some of the members on their ‘turf’ ensuring they are upholding our standards. The measure we use for our standards is a document painstakingly put together from previous codes of conduct and codes of ethics, of which I was board lead 5 years ago in the correlating of these standards.
We now measure funeral homes less on physical premises and more on the policies, processes and protocols they have in place to ensure our ethical principles are upheld the 1st and most important of which is ‘Putting the Family First’ and secondly, but no less importantly, ‘Respecting the deceased’.
This, tripping around, is a twice-yearly event so I am back on Kapiti soil for a bit. I do have a great team though who are very capable so when I am away, and I feel very assured that all families who choose us are being lovingly cared for.
I have been publishing staff profiles of our team over the last month, with a couple more to come over the next few weeks. To see all our staff profiles please go to
