Unfortunately last Sunday the open afternoon could not proceed, however as it is still part of Cemeteries week 2023, so Kapiti Crematorium will have its doors open this Sunday 5th November from 2pm. Managing Director, Andrew Malcolm, will be on site to answer all your questions, with the added bonus of our Kapiti Coast District Council cemetery representatives there also at the crematorium to answer cemetery questions.
Awa Tapu Cemetery is
a park-like setting and as a newish cemetery with its first burial in 1995.
Porirua’s Whenua Tapu cemetery and crematorium at Pukerua Bay held their open day last Sunday.
Andrew worked in Porirua for 7 years before his 30 years in Kapiti. Andrew knew many of the characters who are either laid to rest in both cemeteries or those who have been cremated and has some lovely stories to tell, including knowing all three men, now deceased, in the photo above. Andrew led the graveside service and took the photo which is why he is not in it (no selfies in 1995).
The cemetery is very different now from then, and it is great we will have both Andrew and the cemetery staff available on Sunday to talk about the changes since then and to come.
