Normally at the end of the year Kapiti Coast Funeral Home hold a get-together to thank all those who have helped us serve the families we have cared for over the year by way of refreshments and some ‘Christmas cheer, but this year we are doing something different.
Those who have helped us care for the families we served include Church assistants, ladies’ groups who served refreshments, church vergers & sound and AV assistants, nursing staff and doctors, caregivers and drivers, volunteers and support workers, but this year, things are harder for many in the community so, .. we have decided to forgo our ‘function’ and instead use the money to go towards KaiBosh.
Kaibosh is a food rescue organisation whose ethos is ..
“Zero Food Poverty,
Zero Food Waste”.
Kaibosh Food Rescue links food suppliers with community groups that support people in need. This ensures that surplus quality food reaches those who are struggling rather than being needlessly discarded. This benefits both our community and our environment.
Kaibosh has a branch in Paraparaumu and as a group, Kaibosh rescues and sorts food seven days a week. The group redistributes a large quantity of quality surplus food each month to charities and community groups that support people in need. As well as providing for those who need it most it also reduces carbon emissions from waste.
Kaibosh provides this service at no cost to food donors, charities, or community groups, and is helped to operate through donations from individuals and organisations such as Kapiti Coast Funeral Home.
The Funeral Home wants to acknowledge and honour those carers who would normally be invited to our function, and of those, we have spoken they think it’s a fantastic idea to support this amazing cause rather than have a function. These are all supportive, giving people and this money will assist with the distribution of 1,950 meals so is a way for them and us to continue to be generous at this especially giving time of year.
