In these tight financial times, many people are seeking ways to keep funeral costs down.
Over the next few weeks, I will explore various strategies to achieve this, starting with the importance of informed decisions.
Choose Wisely: One of the most crucial decisions is selecting the right Funeral Director. Even if you opt for a DIY funeral (which I’ll discuss in a future article),
it may still be wise to use a Funeral Director for some arrangements. They can offer low-cost options and save you both financially and emotionally. When choosing a funeral director, check their website for transparency in pricing and fully detailed information. Don’t hesitate to call and speak with the funeral
home you’ve chosen; this conversation hopefully will help you gauge their suitability.
Avoid Markups:
Be aware that some Funeral Homes impose markups (10%- 15%) on items like newspaper notices, flowers, and catering. Others may offer these services at cost or even provide discounts for prompt payment, making some firms more economical. We don’t add mark ups, and in fact if we often get a discount, we pass this on also.
Get Estimates:
Reputable Funeral Homes will provide a written estimate of expenses. Many people seek an approximate cost to align with their budget. It is common for individuals to adjust their spending on services like catering based on initial estimates. We provide estimates for all funerals we look after.
Cost Estimate Calculator:
To enhance transparency, our company provides a pricing booklet, and we are developing an online estimator, this is being created by my son Josh. This tool will allow users to select options from drop-down menus and obtain an estimate within 10% of the final costs. In the meantime, we can still do this manually for you.
Transparent Pricing:
Our estimates detail everything, from vehicle use to, flowers, printing, catering professional fees etc . This transparency enables families to compare services and understand what they will pay. To start, choose your Funeral Director wisely for reliable advice.
I am working on a video series, in which I will cover additional
ways to reduce funeral costs,
including package deals,
reverse funerals, and DIY
options. These will be
