It was 31 years ago today (Thursday 18th May) that I signed papers for the change of ownership for the then Collins Opie Funeral Home to take over the reigns 5 pm the following day.

Collins Opie’s business had been run via locums for some 18 months during his illness and had gone up for sale, and so it was on 19 May 1992 that Andrw & Merryn Malcolm took over the reigns changing the name to Kapiti Coast Funeral Home

Last year, to commemorate 30 years in Kapiti, Andrew Malcolm put together a 35-page book in the form of a high quality magazine, free to anyone interested.

This booklet is full of factual and helpful information and has a dual purpose.  Firstly, to give a quick history of the last 30 years here in Kapiti and secondly, as a practical guide to assist you in pre-planning for the future.  We have simple planning guides, but for many who have been involved in the journey for part of the 30 years, this is a lovely ‘special addition’ to the planning guide that for some will be an extra special way of recording your funeral wishes and having a permanent copy in your bookcase.

Towards the back of the book, there are pages to record your formal details and Funeral wishes, along with some blank pages as an option to record either your own personal connection/s with the Funeral Home, or your community involvement and connections to the area for the years you have lived on the Kapiti Coast.

The book includes the following sections:

  • History of Funeral Home site over 50 years
  • Standards Quality Care statement
  • Current facilities and Services, chapels and crematorium
  • What to Do checklist
  • Helpful Elements of a Farewell
  • Burial versus cremation & cost
  • Pre-planning guide and planning questionnaire
  • Helpful guides on Grief
  • Post Funeral Care
  • Loss and Greif support service

To make this free to anyone wishing a copy we have had very generous sponsorship through advertising in the Magazine, and we thank those wonderful sponsors.

If you wish to avail yourself of a FREE copy, please feel free to drop into the Funeral Home, just over the railway line on the corner of Kapiti Road and Hinemoa Street, Paraparaumu during office hours, they are at the reception counter.
