Following some prominent articles on crematorium failures, we, Kapiti Crematorium, shared some good news stories about our ‘start of the art’ crematorium here in Kapiti, and held an open-day tour on Sunday for those interested.
After a presentation in the chapel, Andrew answered a myriad of questions and then those present were taken ‘behind the curtain’ through a ‘holding room’ and into the room that houses the cremator itself and the ashes processing station.
Those present were given plenty of time to ask additional questions and the feedback we had on the day was that they were ‘very impressed’ and “very pleased to have had the opportunity to come”.
Andrew, CEO of Kapiti Coast Funeral Home, who took the tour, walked the groups through the process and explained everything from the modern air pollution control system, the computer management and monitoring of the cremation procedure, and the processing of ashes. He explained what can be cremated with the deceased and how the dignity is maintained through this process including assurance of identification and the assurance of the ashes returned being the correct ones.
As always questions included things like if cremation is 1 at a time, which it is, through to how and where can you scatter ashes, and the value, especially from a mental health perspective, of how having some form of farewell is so beneficial to those grieving.
Kapiti Crematorium is owned and operated by Kapiti Coast Funeral Home, and if you missed the tour and would like to attend the next crematorium tour being held on Sunday 24th September 2023, please contact the Funeral Home either by phone during business hours 04 298 5168, or through email via events@kapiticoastfuneralhome.co.nz
