It’s not something you would normally rush into doing, but its also not every day that there is a National Cemetery week with a specific focus on Cemeteries & Crematoriums.
Many cemeteries and crematoria around New Zealand are opening their gates this weekend and this is a great opportunity to not just come and have a look around, but also to ask questions.

Kapiti Crematorium, in Awa Tapu Cemetery, 131 Valley Road, Paraparaumu will be open from 2pm – 4pm this Sunday, 29th October 2023.

Not only will Andrew Malcolm, Managing Director of Kapiti Coast Funeral Home and Kapiti Crematorium, be there to answer all you questions, but also Cemetery representatives from
Kapiti Coast District Council will also be at the crematorium to answer any Cemetery questions.

Awa Tapu Cemetery is a tranquil rural setting and as a newish cemetery (first burial in 1995) it has been designed in a park-like way. Whenua Tapu cemetery and crematorium at Pukerua Bay are also holding their open day on Sunday at 1 pm for those Pukerua Bay and South who might like to go and have a look there.
Having worked in Porirua before
his 30 years in Kapiti, Andrew knew many of the characters
who are laid to rest in both cemeteries or been cremated.
