I seem to have had a stream of local speaking engagements lately, and have highly enjoyed getting around the community to do this. It is on the back of travelling nationally in my role as President of the Funeral Directors Association, and it has been a nice mix for me speaking locally again rather than around the national districts.
Sitting with my brother-in-law, who was visiting from Auckland last night, he asked what I talked about, and was pleasantly surprised when I told him I don’t have a standard patter, but alter my talk depending what group I am talking to. For instance, the range of groups I talk to include medical personnel, (such as nurses and care givers); community groups, such as Probus, Rebus; Rotary (and Inner Wheel), and Lions; and then there are faith groups such as church home groups, woman’s and men’s groups, and interest groups such as genealogy etc.
I tend to change my presentation focus depending on the group I am talking to and my talks vary but often include Funeral protocols such as talking about what our Loss and Grief Centre offers, explaining terminology and legalities such as certificates needed for disinterment, travel with ashes, power of attorney, Executorship, and probate, and interest talks often include my work with International Needs in places like Zambia, the Philippines, PNG, Turkey and projects in NZ including
He Tangata Trust. I really enjoy speaking to those in the local community and customise up my talks depending on what group I am talking to.
I have been asked to talk at groups even from out of the Kapiti Area, including Wellington and as far away as Fielding. No Group is too small or too large. So, if having a ‘different’ speaker, a local Funeral Director from a locally owned funeral Home appeals, just get in touch on 04 2985168.
