So do I get to pick my own plot?

Yes, you can in most cemeteries. You can choose one of two sections in this cemetery, that’s plaque or headstone. Most modern cemeteries have both those sections.

What’s the difference between a plaque and headstone? So a plaque is usually a flat monument or on a slightly raised prepared ground like it is over here, the pre-poured mould, where you get the older traditional headstones way back there, which are the granite upright headstones. As far as other plots, there are different types. In some of the older cemeteries, you get these open areas that you can do just about anything in, but most modern cemeteries only have a choice of plaque or headstones.

Some of the old cemeteries have even things like mausoleums, and we would call them a vault these days.
In Jesus’ day, they called it a tomb, and that’s an above ground burial where it’s like a little house and you actually place the person in there. Other than that, yeah, you don’t get to choose where that plot is.

You can’t go around and say I want that one over there because it’s under a tree. If you are choosing, for instance, a plaque plot, you get the next one in the row, except for some cemeteries they still allow you to choose.
